Alastair MacDonald
Alastair advises our Irish and international corporate clients in the areas of restructuring, forensic and internal procedures reviews and regulatory issues. He is also audit partner on a range of special purpose vehicles and occupational pension schemes. In addition, Alastair also specialises in advising on property and company funding, origination and structuring.
Alastair is Vice-Chairman of the Quality Assurance Committee ("QAC") of the Chartered Accountants Regulatory Board ("CARB"). The QAC is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations applicable to Chartered Accountants.
Alastair is also a member of the Professional Standards Committee of CARB. He is a former member of Joint Investment Business Committee of CARB. This representative committee of the CAI, ICAEW and ICAS formulated regulatory policy in relation to investment business matters and responded to consultative papers issued by the Central Bank of Ireland or the FSA of the UK. Alastair is a former member of the CARB working party that reviewed the Investment Business Regulations for Chartered Accountants in Ireland.
Alastair also currently sits on the NAMA Forum Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.
Alastair was an invitee of Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources in 2009 to act as a member of the Government’s International Content Services Centre (“ICSC”) Taskforce. The Taskforce was set up by the Irish Government in 2009 to assess the feasibility of establishing a global content management centre in Ireland, mirroring the IFSC.
Education, previous work experience
Alastair’s clients include state bodies and some of the largest financial institutions in Ireland; he is lead partner on the Firm’s Framework Agreements with the Central Bank of Ireland and National Asset Management Agency.
Alastair has a B.Comm. Degree (Banking & Finance) from UCD. He trained as a Chartered Accountant with Schnittger & Associates, a Dublin based firm of Chartered Accountants, specialising in the provision of financial and regulatory advice to Irish and German owned businesses. Alastair subsequently joined Deloitte in 1998 as an Assurance & Advisory Manager in the Firm’s Financial Services group. At Deloitte, Alastair gained experience advising financial services clients including multinational fund and property fund entities.
Personal
Alastair, married with two young sons, is a keen sportsperson enjoying keeping fit, playing rugby and hill walking.
